The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister, Othman Jerandi, held a phone conversation with his Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly, during which he reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to the democratic choice and to the preservation of individual rights and freedoms.
"Democracy is an irreversible choice," he said to the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Tunisian minister also reviewed the economic and social reforms that the government is implementing to revive the national economy.
He also praised the strong ties of friendship that unite Tunisia and Canada and the excellent level of partnership between the two countries, particularly in higher education and women's empowerment, noting the common determination to further consolidate it in the various fields of common interest.
From her part, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that her country is closely following the developments of the political process and the results of the constitutional referendum. She expressed Canada's wish to see Tunisians adopt a participatory approach to bring together the various political and civil components, especially in view of the next legislative elections scheduled for December 2022.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, notably the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its repercussions on food security.
