Tunisia recovered, last Saturday, a group of important artifacts from France in coordination between the Cultural Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Tunisians Abroad, the cultural Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The recovered artifacts include a crown composed of limestone which dates back to the third century BC, mast bases, stones from a limestone catapult from the Roman period, three firearms (kohl) from the 19th century and a leather cartridge belt from the 20th century.
According to the statement, a French serviceman, who served in Tunisia between 1954 and 1959, took the artifacts to France. Then, one of his sons, in cooperation with the Tunisian Embassy in Paris and the General Consulate in Paris, reported the pieces and secured procedures for their return to Tunisia.
