The Tunisian Ministry of National Defense stated that a Navy unit, rescued, on Sunday, August 14, 2022, 42 immigrants coming from Egypt and who took refuge on the oil terminal "Ashtart" southeast of the island of Kerkennah (governorate of Sfax).

They reported having sailed on a boat from the Libyan coast, in the night of August 12 to 13, in an attempt to illegally cross the Tunisian borders to the European zone.

These irregular immigrants were taken to the fishing port El Ketf in Ben Guerdane (governorate of Medenine) where they were handed over the National Guard to take the necessary measures against them.
