A phone conversation took place yesterday Tuesday, February 13, 2024, between the Minister of Interior, Kamal Feki and his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi, to coordinate on the outcomes of the trilateral meeting that brought them together and their Libyan counterpart last November 2023 in the Italian capital, Rome, according to a statement by the Tunisian Ministry of Interior.
The two ministers reviewed the current status and prospects of cooperation relations and partnership programs between the interior ministries of both countries, especially in the fields of combating irregular migration and organized crime.
This call also represented a new opportunity for both parties to reaffirm their sincere will and firm determination to advance along the path of strengthening these relations and elevating them to the highest levels, reflecting the depth and rootedness of the historical relations between the two countries and serving the interests of the friendly peoples, added the Tunisian Ministry of Interior.
Efforts by both parties to support the capabilities of Tunisian security units to combat networks operating in human trafficking and organizing illegal migration trips between the two countries were also reviewed, and the two ministers expressed the need to continue cooperation in this regard to activate the voluntary return of irregular migrants in our country to their countries of origin with the assistance of specialized UN organizations.
