Bouden calls for giving new attractions the importance they deserve

According to the Press and Communication Office in the Tunisian Government, The Head of Government Najla Bouden inaugurated today, Monday, March 28, 2022, the Tunisian Tourism Debates to establish the national strategy for the development of the tourism sector in the horizon of 2035, and that in the presence of the Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Bel-Hussein.

At the beginning of her speech, the Head of Government expressed her appreciation to all workers in the tourism sector despite the successive difficulties and crises faced by tourism in the world and especially in Tunisia.

The Head of Government indicated that the tourism sector has an important role in the service of sustainable development, and Tunisia has had successive experience and expertise in this field since the beginning of the sixties, noting that the tourism sector is one of the most important basics of economic and social growth for our country because of the jobs it provides and its role in stimulating the economic movement in various fields next to the agricultural and commercial fields, as well as the traditional industries sector.

Bouden stressed that Tunisia has the elements of touristic attractions from a special geographical location, richness and diversity of its landscapes and treasures of tangible and intangible heritage and antiquities. Tunisia also has highly qualified human resources with advanced tourism facilities and services, noting that the sector, despite all these advantages, witnessed during the last decade several crises made it not keeping pace with the growth rate of tourism in the world, and it regressed even in the level of its contribution to the creation of national wealth due to several structural and circumstantial reasons.

The Head of Government also stressed that the circumstantial difficulties facing the tourism sector can be overcome by relying on the basic tourism components that our country has, especially the human element, noting in this context that a practical plan has been developed with the aim of overcoming the crisis caused by the spread of Covid-19 and restoring tourism activity in the best conditions.

She called on that tourism cannot only be limited to beach tourism. In fact, there are other important new touristic attractions such as ecotourism, historical and archaeological tourism, desert tourism, urban tourism, conference tourism, health tourism and seawater treatment, tourism for special segments such as youth, the elderly and associations, cultural tourism, tourism from the perspective of intangible heritage and traditional industries, sport resorts tourism, racing and hunting tourism, and weekend tourism in the time of the open sky.

Finally, the Head of Government addressed all those involved in the tourism sector to contribute effectively and constructively in the establishment of the new strategy for Tunisian tourism in the horizon of 2027-2035, which is based on a clear goal and that to establish tourism as a fundamental axis for economic, social and environmental development throughout the Tunisian country, making Tunisia one of the most competitive and sustainable tourist destination in the world.
