The Corniche beach in Mahdia was declared as the first ecological beach in Tunisia, on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The announcement was made at the European Cooperation Day celebrated in Tunisia within the framework of the activities of MED Dé.Co.U.Plages, a cross-border project developed within the Cooperation Program “Italy-Tunisia 2014-2020”, co-financed by the European Union to the amount of 1.2 MD.

MED Dé.Co.U.Plages started in 2020 and will run until 2023, the project coordinator said that Mahdia beach was chosen among 162 others to obtain the "Ecological Beach."

The European Cooperation Day included a visit to the remains of the city, a campaign to clean the seabed and workshops on the “Ecological Label”.

The Cooperation Program “Italy-Tunisia 2014-2020”, also includes a theatrical show, choreographies, a photographic exhibition and a bike parade for young cyclists organized under the slogan “Bike for Peace”.
