The Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated that yesterday, evening, Tuesday, May 09, 2023, a guard of the Naval Center of the National Guard in Aghir, Djerba killed his colleague by using his individual weapon and seizing ammunition.

He tried then to reach the neighborhood of the Ghriba Synagogue and deliberately opened fire arbitrary at the security units stationed in the place, which responded and prevented him from reaching the Synagogue and killed him.

The incident resulted in the injury of six security agents with varying severity, one of whom died, as well as the death of two visitors, and the injury of four other people with injuries of varying severity, who were taken to hospital for treatment.

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior confirms that the Synagogue has been surrounded, and all the people inside and outside the Synagogue have been secured.

Investigation is continuing to find out the reasons for this treacherous and cowardly attack.
