Tunisia will host the first African conference on combating illicit financial flows in Africa from June 26 to 28, 2024, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad.
The conference is organized by the African Union under the theme "Africa's Tax Agenda in Combating Illicit Financial Flows: From Words to Action." Tunisia's hosting of this conference is part of its ongoing commitment to supporting African joint efforts to address developmental challenges.
It underscores Tunisia's emphasis on supporting governance, combating illicit financial flows, fighting financial corruption, tax evasion, and money laundering. Tunisia aims to enact necessary international, regional, and national legislation to recover embezzled and smuggled funds abroad and to recover looted funds.
The conference will witness participation of governmental officials and international experts from within and outside Africa. They will discuss the phenomenon, identify its causes and contributing factors, exchange best practices, and explore ways to enhance international cooperation to combat illicit financial flows.
The objective is to achieve comprehensive growth and sustainable development in line with Africa's Agenda 2063 vision and aspirations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, will inaugurate the conference proceedings on the morning of Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
