The Tunisian FM renews Tunisia's solidarity with Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister Mr. Othman Jerandi, on Monday February 6, 2023,, renewed Tunisia's solidarity with the Republic of Sudan in its endeavor to achieve lasting peace and stability, in a way that ends the conflict in the country, preserves the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Sudan, and restores peace and security and prosperity for its citizens.

The Tunisian Foreign Minister was speaking during his participation in the virtual ministerial meeting of Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), which was chaired by the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa, and devoted to discussing the situation in Sudan.

The Foreign Minister welcomed the signing by the Sudanese parties last December of the framework agreement, which represents a roadmap with clear features and objectives towards political settlement, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad.

Mr. Jerandi expressed the hope that the new transitional period will culminate in a rapprochement of views and finding a comprehensive, lasting and peaceful solution to the political crisis in Sudan.

He appreciated the mediation efforts undertaken by the African Union, the United Nations through UNITAMS (United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Eastern Africa, within the framework of the tripartite mechanism, to support Sudanese actors and facilitate the political transition process in Sudan.

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister expressed his "concern about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan."

He, in this regard, called on the international community and donor institutions to "renew their solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese people and lift the suspension of aid to the Republic of Sudan so that it can face political, economic and social challenges," according to the same statement.
