The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia stated that the President Mr.Kais Saied received on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Carthage Palace, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Mekdad, who is on a three-day visit to Tunisia.

The Head of State stressed Tunisia's determination to preserve the "solid and historical ties of brotherhood and cooperation binding Tunisia and Syria," according to the same source.

The President also highlighted Tunisia's willingness to intensify consultation and cooperation on various bilateral issues in different fields, and insisted on the common bonds shared by the two countries in terms of civilization and culture, stressing the common will to boost bilateral relations and to meet all challenges in order to achieve the aspirations of the two peoples.

The Syrian Foreign Minister started, on Monday, a three-day visit to Tunisia, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, Mr. Nabil Ammar.

The visit aims, according to the minister, to "restore bilateral relations, after the appointment of a Tunisian ambassador to Syria and the decision of the Syrian authorities to reopen the Syrian embassy in Tunis and assign a new ambassador.
