Tunisia, Member in PSC of the African Union (2022-2024)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that starting from the 1st of April 2022, Tunisia will begin its membership in The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union for the period 2022-2024, following its election during the 40th session of the Executive Council of the African Union held in Addis Ababa last February.

This membership will be an occasion for Tunisia to confirm its commitment to promoting joint African work, which would contribute in achieving peace, security and sustainable development for the peoples of the region, and in building bridges of trust, dialogue and solidarity among all African countries.

Tunisia will also seek, during its tenure in the African Peace and Security Council, to translate its vision,

which was affirmed by the President of the Tunisian Republic, to find peaceful, just and lasting solutions to various African issues and to address the causes of political, economic and social crises, in line with the objectives of the African Union Agenda 2063 for ‘A secure, stable and prosperous African Continent’.

Tunisia will be keen to carry out its responsibly in its commitments to the African continent in the fields of peace and security, especially in light of the pioneering role it played during its membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2020-2021 in representing African countries and defending the interests and issues of the continent with all sincerity and diligence.

Tunisia will also make use of the experience it has accumulated in the field of maintaining peace and security through its participation in many UN peacekeeping operations, especially in Africa, in order to enhance the role of the Council and contribute to continental efforts to prevent conflicts, establish peace and support stability in Africa.
