Tunisia will take part in the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC 2024), scheduled to be held in Beijing, China, from September 4 to 6, 2024.
The event, themed "Joining Hands to Promote Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future," will bring together African heads of state and government officials to further strengthen economic cooperation between African nations and China.
China's presence in Africa has significantly contributed to the development of African economies in recent years. The FOCAC 2024 summit is expected to reinforce China's role as a key partner in Africa's development and as a leading country in the Global South. The forum will provide a valuable opportunity to deepen strategic, economic, and diplomatic relations between China and African countries.
In preparation for this forum, Tunisian Head of Government, Kamel Madouri, met with the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, on August 20, 2024, at the Government Palace in Kasbah.
The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was officially established following the first ministerial conference on China-Africa cooperation, held in Beijing from October 10 to 12, 2000. The forum includes China, the African Union, and African countries that have diplomatic relations with China. Since its inception, the China-Africa Forum has played a crucial role in expanding trade exchanges between the two sides.
Recent data from the Chinese Customs Agency indicates that trade between China and African countries reached $167 billion during the first seven months of 2024.
Chinese exports to African nations amounted to $97 billion during the same period, according to Africa Report.
