The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister, Nabil Ammar, held yesterday, Monday, December 18, 2023, on the sidelines of his participation in the high–level Seminar on strengthening peace and security in Africa, held in Oran - Algeria, a bilateral meeting with his Gambian counterpart, Mamadou Tangara, who chaired the Seminar as President of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, for the month of December 2023.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, in particular economic cooperation, and ways to develop them in various fields. The discussions also focused on migration and consular cooperation, said the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
On this occasion, Nabil Ammar underlined that the Tunisian authorities continue to work, in coordination with specialized international organizations, to repatriate a certain number of Gambian irregular migrants to their country on a voluntary basis, and are committed to treat them in accordance with the national laws and Tunisia’s international obligations.
In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on ways to strengthen security and peace on the African continent as well as on developments in the regional and international issues, according to the same source.
