The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia stated that today, Friday, June 2, 2023, the President Kais Saied had a phone call with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

This conversation was an occasion to put emphasis on bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between Tunisia and the European Union.

They discussed the initiative launched by President Saied to hold a high-level conference between the countries concerned by the migration issue.

The initiative concern, in particular, North African countries, those of the Sahel and Sahara and countries of the northern shore of the Mediterranean.

The aim is to tackle the causes of irregular migration and identify appropriate ways of putting an end to the resulting humanitarian crisis.

The Italian Prime Minister has accepted the invitation of President Saied to make an official visit to Tunisia next week, according to the same source.
