April 12-13: the Tunisian FM on a working visit to Italy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that at the invitation of the Vice-President of the Italian Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Antonio Tajani, the Minister Mr. Nabil Ammar will be on a working visit to Italy on April 12 and 13,

This visit will be an opportunity to discuss means to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all areas, next to discussing means of combating irregular immigration in a profound and effective manner, according to the same source.

During this visit, the Tunisian Minister had a meeting today, April 13, 2023 with the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Mr. Antonio Tajani.

This meeting focused on the different aspects of bilateral cooperation and the prospects for strengthening and diversifying them. The interview was followed by a joint statement to the press.

During this working session, Mar. Ammar highlighted the distinguished strategic partnership between Tunisia and Italy, emphasizing that Tunisia relies on its own capacities as well as on the economic and financial support of its partners, and in particular Italy, to deal with financial and economic difficulties in order to make the ongoing recovery process a success, thus contributing to the establishment of real democracy in accordance with the aspirations of the Tunisian people.

For his part, the Italian Minister stressed the importance and solidity of the existing strategic partnership between the two countries, expressing the will of the Italian side to continue to support Tunisia during the current economic and social challenges, not only at the bilateral level but at the level of the European Union as well.

The two officials reviewed all the areas of cooperation between the two countries and studied the means to develop them further, particularly with regard to Italian investments in Tunisia, trade and energy and development projects such as the ELMED electrical interconnection project.

The two parties also discussed ways to manage the immigration issue and the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that considers the economic, social and humanitarian dimensions of this phenomenon, as well as the commitment of the two countries to combat human trafficking.

The two officials stressed the importance of consultation and to properly prepare the forthcoming agenda between the two countries, in particular the second session of the Higher Strategic Council for Tunisian-Italian cooperation.
