Conclusion of the 35th session of Joint Tunisia-US Military Commission

The Tunisian Minister of National Defense Imed Memmich concluded on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, the 35th session of the Joint Tunisia-United States Military Commission, held in Stuttgart, Germany, in the presence of the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Celeste Wallander, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Kirk Smith and the Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia.

Speaking at the closing session, the Tunisian Minister of National Defense welcomed the positive atmosphere that marked the commission's work, saying it was an opportunity to explore new horizons of bilateral military cooperation, the Defense Department said in a statement on Wednesday.

The minister stressed that the regular holding of this commission reflects the common desire to further support joint efforts to raise and promote the level of bilateral cooperation.

Memmich took the opportunity to welcome the support provided by the United States to Tunisia, saying it has been reflected, in particular, in the volume of military aid and cooperation programs in the areas of training and sharing of expertise.

From her part, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense expressed satisfaction at the success of this session. She “highly praised” the efforts made by Tunisia in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to support and coordinate with the country as a key partner in Africa in this field.

The session works were hosted by AFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany, on September 27 and 28.
