TAP -Lundi 28 Août 2023 - 17:27

"The epidemic situation in Tunisia is stable and there is no new wave of COVID," said Riadh Daghfous, member of the scientific committee for the fight against coronavirus.

Speaking to TAP today, Monday, Daghfous added that the epidemiological figures are reassuring and that 2 to 3 people are hospitalized daily due to COVID-19, adding that the number of cases admitted to intensive care has not exceeded 5 patients in recent months.

He said that he genomic sequencing carried out recently confirmed the absence of the EG.5 subvariant of Omicron, and called on citizens with chronic diseases and the elderly to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

"The new variant is not dangerous and does not cause any major problems. It affects a specific category of people, namely the elderly, people with chronic diseases and those with immune problems," Pasteur Institute director Hechmi Louzir told journalists earlier.
