G7 Expresses “Deep Concern” Over Middle East Tensions
The G7 foreign ministers expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning of a potential broader conflict. In a joint statement, ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the EU urged all parties to de-escalate and avoid further violence.
Earlier, the ministers participated in a videoconference meeting chaired by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
This comes after recent escalations, including the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut by Israel and the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, attributed to Israel. Both Hezbollah and Hamas have vowed retaliation.
