In a speech during his chairing the 40th extraordinary session of the Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie (CMF) in Paris on Wednesday, March 15th 2022, Othman Jerandi, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, affirmed that Tunisia is ready to host the Francophone Summit in Djerba in this current year, and is determined to make this important event a success, both in terms of form and content.

Jerandi expressed Tunisia’s support for all the efforts made to make the work of the International Organization of Francophonie more efficient and its readiness to actively participate in the several initiatives and programs adopted in this regard.

The Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, also stressed the importance of the current session due to the issues on its agenda, which reflect the accuracy of the current international stage, especially in light of the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting decline in economic and social growth, in addition to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis in its various dimensions.

In this context, Jerandi highlighted that maintaining international peace and security require a comprehensive response to the many challenges, including combatting terrorism, violent extremism and organized crime, in addition to the phenomenon of climate change and the growth of illegal immigration.

He also stressed the need to combat the flow of misinformation, as it poses an unprecedented threat to democracy across the world and to the economy and stability of the countries.
