Jerandi: Tunisia will continue supporting to solve Arab region's problems
Tunisia will continue its support to solve the region's problems in line with its commitments and partnerships, notably on the occasion of its election as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) during the period 2022-2024 and its presidency of the 18th Francophonie Summit, to be hosted in Djerba on November 19-20, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi.
"Tunisia's success in establishing a cooperation mechanism between the Arab League and the UN Security Council offers an additional international forum with more opportunities to deepen understanding of Arab issues and mobilize support," Jerandi considered as he chaired the 31st regular session of the Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting ahead of the Arab League Council at the Summit level (November 1-2, in Algiers).
The consolidation of an active Arab role in the current international balance confirms the need to identify a new approach to deal with Arab economic issues, based on solidarity, complementarity and integration, so as to address the challenges, the FM underlined, laying emphasis on the need to leverage the Arab region's capabilities, make the most of its human resources and achieve self-reliance and self-sufficiency as pillars of security for the Arab region.
He further pointed out the particular importance of the social dimension in the joint Arab action, through the reorganization of reform priorities, notably education, women's empowerment, youth participation in public issues and fight against multidimensional poverty.
Besides, Jerandi recalled Tunisia's initiatives, actions and contacts during its presidency of the 30th Arab Summit, within an unprecedented regional and international context dictated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the fall-out of the Russia-Ukraine war.
He called in this regard, for a joint Arab action to take the lead in resolving the crises still affecting a number of countries and to harmonize positions in order to restore stability and security.
At the end of his address, Jerandi handed over the council's presidency to his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra, whose country will host the 31st Arab Summit.
