Lebanese Judge elected President of the International Court of Justice
The International Court of Justice announced that its panel of 15 independent judges has elected Lebanese Judge Nawaf Salam as the President of the Court for a term of 3 years.
The Court stated that Judge Salam had been a member since February 6, 2018, and prior to joining, he served as Lebanon's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from July 2007 until December 2017.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Prime Minister Najib Mikati congratulated Salam over the phone on his election as President of the Court in The Hague for a 3-year term.
