Moussi calls for holding snap presidential elections
The President of the Free Destourian Party (PDL) Abir Moussi reitered her position about the new constitution saying it gives "broad powers to the President of the Republic."
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, August 22, 2022, Moussi stressed that Kais Saied is no longer the President of the Republic under Article 92 of the new Constitution which provides that the Head of State must be sworn in before the Parliament and the Council of Regions and Districts.
The current form of the reign of Kais Saied is "devoid of any legitimacy" , she pointed out.
The president of the PDL underlined that she had sent a bailiff to the Presidency of the Republic to protest against procedural "drifts" made by Saïed.
Moussi urged Saied to announce vacancy in the Presidency of the Republic and hold snap presidential elections as soon as possible.
Saied does not have the right to issue a new electoral law of his own, she said, emphasizing that "the Head of State is part of an Iranian project in the region."
