National Guard Prevents 59 Illegal Sea Crossings, Saves 1806 Migrants
The General Directorate of the National Guard announced in a statement today, Monday, June 17, 2024, that security units have managed to thwart 59 attempts to clandestinely cross the maritime borders.
The same source indicated that on June 15 and 16, a total of 1806 people were rescued (including 18 Tunisians and the rest from sub-Saharan African nationalities).
Additionally, two human bodies were retrieved, and 24 individuals who were wanted as organizers and intermediaries were detained.
Boats and marine engines used in the clandestine maritime operations were also seized.
