Paris 2024 Olympics: Kilia Nemour Offers Algeria and the Arab World Their First Gold Medal
Today, Sunday, August 4, 2024, Algerian gymnast Kilia Nemour has secured the first gold medal for her country and the Arab world in the 33rd edition of the Summer Olympic Games 2024, being hosted in France until August 11.
Kilia Nemour triumphed in the women's uneven bars final with an impressive score of 15.700, just days after securing a top spot in the all-around final. At just 17 years old, Kilia has etched her name in history as the first Arab and African gymnast to ascend the podium in this event.
This gold medal is not only a first for Algeria in the Paris 2024 Olympics but also marks the country's second medal overall. This comes after boxer Iman Khlef guaranteed at least a bronze medal in the under 66 kg weight category, with her semifinal bout scheduled for next Tuesday.
Furthermore, Kilia's achievement is the first Olympic gold for Algeria since the victory of runner Taoufik Makhloufi at the 2012 London Olympics.
