A 2,492-carat diamond, the second largest in the world, has been discovered in Botswana's Karowe Diamond Mine.

The Canadian company, Lucara Diamond Corp, said in a statement that it made the find using advanced X-ray technology. While its value is yet to be determined, the diamond ranks just behind the 3,016-carat Cullinan Diamond found in South Africa in 1905.

Lucara's president called it one of the largest rough diamonds ever unearthed, and Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi has confirmed its significance.
