
Solar Energy: TuNur plans to invest $ 1.5 billion in the south of Tunisia
The British renewable energy developer "TuNur" plans to invest 1.5 billion dollars (about 4.7 billion dinars) in the installation of an export-oriented solar power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatts in the governorates of Kebili and Gabes in the south of Tunisia.
This was announced by its CEO, Daniel Rich during his meeting on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, with the Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saied at the Ministry headquarters.
Rich stressed the group's willingness to expand its activities and investments in Tunisia, given the benefits and incentives offered, including the orientation of government programs towards the green economy, the Ministry of Economy said in a statement.
Rich said that Tunisia has the natural resources, the necessary factors and the strategic geographical position entitling it to rank among the most important sites in North Africa for the production of electricity and supply of Europe whose needs are growing.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the progress of the project to produce electricity from solar energy in the governorate of Gabes.
The project, with an investment of about 24 million dinars and a capacity of 10 Megawatts, should enter into service by the end of 2022, it was added.
It will meet the demand for local consumption through the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).
From his part, the Tunisian Minister recalled that the green economy and diversification of energy sources (renewable and clean) is a strategic choice whether for local consumption or export.
