The Head of Government supervised the beginning of the harvest campaign

The Head of the Tunisian Government, Mrs.Najla Bouden, supervised today, Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the beginning of the harvest campaign in the Governorate of Siliana, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fishing, Mr.Mahmoud Elyes Hamza.

Mrs. Bouden called on stakeholders to be vigilant so as to ensure the success of the field crops campaign, when reaping the harvest in order to preserving its quality.

Earlier the government has provided all logistics required, including selected seeds and fertilizers, she pointed out. The government also reviewed the increasing purchase prices of grain.

The Head of Government spoke of all the preparations made for this campaign, namely the creation of a complementary program meant to prevent fires.

All measures were taken to reduce the losses during the various campaign stages (transport, collection and reception), according to the Head of Government.

The production, this year, is estimated to be around 18 million quintals comparing to 16 million last season.

The northern governorates contribute by 91% to domestic production, while the irrigated areas, estimated at 66,000 hectares, contribute by 13% to it, with 2.3 million quintals.
