The Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs Hayet Guettat Guermazi met on Thursday, December 30, 2022, with the Mauritanian Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal and Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Relations with Parliament Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, in the presence of Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) Mohamed Ould Amar.

The meeting took place in the margins of the Forum “Strengthening Women's Leadership for Peace and Development in the Arab Region,” held in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The Tunisian Minister stressed the essential role of women in achieving development, welcoming the level of creativity of Mauritanian women working on the circular and green economy during the inauguration of the “House of Innovation for Visual Arts.”

The meeting raised ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the cultural field in light of the executive programme of cultural cooperation between Tunisia and Mauritania for the years 2022, 2023 and 2024, signed last May.

Emphasis was placed on the need to draw up an action plan to implement the main lines of this programme, by defining a number of concrete activities in the sectors of heritage, plastic arts, cultural action, cinema, as well as the organization of festivals and major cultural events.

The meeting also addressed arrangements for the organization of the “Festival of Medinas” in Mauritania, which aims to revive, enhance and promote ancient cities.

A cooperation agreement between the National Centre for Cinema and Image and the Nouakchott Film makers' House was also on the agenda.
