The Tunisian President Kais Saied received, Tuesday at the Palace of Carthage, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara A. Leaf.
The Head of State called on the US authorities to listen to their Tunisian counterparts "to know everything about the real situation in Tunisia," and to refute the "false allegations peddled by some parties."
Saied mentioned several issues relating the process followed by the country, reaffirming "Tunisia's attachment to its sovereignty and its refusal of any interference in its internal affairs," according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.
He also regretted the statements made recently by a number of US officials.
The meeting was also an occasion to review the development of Tunisian-US relations, the economic and social situation of Tunisia and the assistance the international community can provide to enable Tunisia to overcome the difficulties.
It was an opportunity to discuss the issue of stolen funds. President Saied, in this regard, highlighted the role that can be done by the international community to return these funds to the Tunisians.
