The Tunisian President receives the EU Commissioner for Justice

The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia -Vendredi 11 Novembre 2022 - 20:40

The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia stated that the President Kais Saied received today, Friday, at Carthage Palace, the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders.

The Tunisian President affirmed the importance for the European side, which is aware of many facts and details, to admit that the process launched on July 25, 2022 was necessary to save the state and the country. Today, the last word belongs to the Tunisian people, he said.

Saied emphasized the importance of fair justice, noting that institutions are not an end in themselves. Each institution must work to achieve the objectives for which it was created, he insisted.

He then referred to the pioneering Tunisian experience in law, in the field of the promulgation of the constitution, the electoral law and laws guaranteeing women's rights and others. History does not go backwards and rights and freedoms are not texts, they must be translated into practice, he insisted.

On another level, the President of the Republic noted that all those who claim to be victims of dictatorship, move freely in Tunisia and abroad.

"The Tunisian people is capable of protecting the state and its country. Justice must play its full role and impose respect for the law," he said, denouncing attempts to undermine the state and its institutions and to paralyze public services by all means
