The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia stated that On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, the President Kais Saied visited the US Library of Congress, where he reviewed a number of US legal and constitutional texts.

This visit was an occasion to discuss the constitutional history in Tunisia, from the Constitution of Carthage to today. It was also an opportunity to talk about bilateral cooperation in the legal field, especially in the issue of preventing slavery in Tunisia, as well as the message that General Hussein addressed to the American authorities in the mid-nineteenth century about the measures taken in Tunisia to prevent slavery, in response to a letter he received from Washington on this subject.

The Tunisian President was exposed to the richness of the Tunisian experience in the legal field, and showed his hosts a number of photos and documents that he brought with him from Tunisia and related to some constitutional milestones in the United States of America, such as the Declaration of Independence, the establishment of the American Constitution, a picture of the patterns of the first American flag, and other documents and pictures.

The President of the Republic also expressed his aspiration to establish continuous cooperation between the Tunisian National Library and the Library of Congress, highlighting that the Tunisian National Library is filled with many unique manuscripts and writings in the world, whether in the legal field or in other fields and sciences.
