
TICAD 8: the Tunisia conference final declaration 2022
The final declaration of the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) which was held from August 27 to 28 in Tunis, iwas released after the participating leaders of countries, governments and international organizations spent two days on working about three important pillars, namely realizing structural transformation for sustainable economic growth and social development, especially considering the private sector investment as critical.
Private companies are official partners of the TICAD 8 through the Public-Private Business Dialogue held between Japan and Africa, a testament to the highest consideration attached to the development of the private sector in Africa and Japan.
The gathered leaders also emphasizes on the importance of Japan-Africa partnership for investment promotion and promoting the innovation from the private sector by encouraging cooperation between Japanese and African companies and technology transfer, and promotion of industrial human resource development, in order to accelerate the structural transformation of inclusiveness and sustainable growth in Africa and its efforts in realizing the agenda of 2063, while overcoming challenges such as rising food and energy prices.
The leaders of countries, governments and international organizations affirmed their support for initiatives aimed at promoting mutually beneficial public-private partnerships that facilitate economic diversification in Africa, such as the Japan Business Council for Africa and the Japan-Africa Infrastructure Development Association, appreciating the efforts to establish a new fund to encourage investment in Africa Investors Forum African Sovereigns aims to improve the investment attractiveness of the continent and mobilize capital in favor of structuring projects, encouraging acceleration of impact investments means and creating an environment conducive to an innovation-friendly ecosystem.
The leaders also stressed the importance of investing in Africa's digital transformation including data infrastructure; develop digital industrial policies, and build the right skills to engage in the digital economy, with the aim of accelerating innovation through partnership between Japanese and African firms. They agree to urge enhanced support from the international community for the digitization of African economies, as a means to unlock the continent's growth potential, to create employment opportunities for its population, and to ensure affordable access to technology for citizens and encourage investment.
