
Tunisia, Cameroon: discussing irregular migration crisis
The Tunisian Interior Ministry stated that the Minister Kamel Feki held a meeting today, Monday, August 21, 2023, with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon to Tunisia, Samuel Djobo.
The meeting focused on ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the areas of specialization of the two Ministries of Interior.
The two officials discussed irregular migration, particularly with regard to the Cameroonian community established in Tunisia.
Emphasis was also placed on the need for joint efforts by all stakeholders to combat irregular migration and protect young people from becoming part of criminal networks specializing in human trafficking.
During the meeting, it was agreed to adopt a comprehensive, development-based approach to tackling the irregular migration crisis in sub-Saharan Africa.
For his part, the Cameroonian Ambassador expressed his support for Tunisia's position in exercising its sovereignty and applying the law on its territory. He added that consideration would be given to supporting efforts to return Cameroonian irregular migrants who arrive on Tunisian soil to their country in a manner that respects their dignity.
