Tunisia: Dam Fill Rate Stands at 27%

The dam filling rate stands at 27 on January 3, according to the latest data published today, Wednesday, January 3, 2024, by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI).

The fill rate varies from one dam to another, and from one region to another. Dams in the north have been filled to 31.3%, while those in the center and south have been filled to 12.5% and 9.5%, respectively.

ONAGRI reported a 29.6% fall in water reserves in the dams, to 625.8 million m3 at the beginning of January, compared with an average of 889.4 million m3 over the last three years.

The Sidi Salem dam alone accounts for 28.5% of total water reserves (178.6 million m3), which is 31% of its filling capacity.

The Bouhertma and Sejnane dams each account for almost 6% of the national water reserves (36 million m3), followed by the Sidi Saâd dam (5%, or 31.5 million m3), and by far the Joumine (3%) and Bir Mcherga (2%) dams.

The Houareb and El Hamma dams are completely empty (0%).

Water inflows to the dams on January 3, 2024 stand at 0.900 million m3, 97% of which has supplied the dams in the north.
