Tunisia, EU: discussing ways for further bilateral cooperation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister Mr. Nabil Ammar received today, March 27, 2023, at the ministry’s headquarters, the European Economy Commissioner Mr. Paolo Gentiloni, who is on a working visit to Tunisia.

During the meeting, the Minister welcomed the excellent strategic partnership between Tunisia and the European Union. He also pointed out that Tunisia relies first on the mobilization of its own resources, and on the economic and financial support of its partners, including the EU, for the success of the process of political, economic and social reforms.

In this context, the Minister invited the European side to show more understanding of this particular phase through which Tunisia is undergoing.

For his part, Mr. Paolo Gentiloni underlined the quality of the bilateral partnership and expressed the willingness of the European side to continue its support to Tunisia, both bilaterally and as part of its cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During this meeting, the Minister and the European Commissioner exchanged views on the various aspects of cooperation between Tunisia and the EU and discussed ways to further develop them, especially in the areas of investment, education, higher education and energy. The two sides also discussed the issue of migration and the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that takes into consideration the economic and social dimensions of this phenomenon.
