
Tunisia, Japan: enhancing cooperation in the social field
The Tunisian Minister of Social Affairs Malek Ezzahi, met on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, with the Ambassador of Japan to Tunisia Shimizu Shinsuke, at the ministry headquarters.
The both sides discussed the ways to strengthen cooperation between Tunisia and Japan in the social field and the participation of the Ministry of Social Affairs in side events of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development TICAD 8 hosted by Tunisia.
The Tunisian Minister reviewed the cooperation projects between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), such as the consolidation of activities for people with disabilities, delivery of buses to organizations working in the social field, participation of the ministry's executives in training sessions on care for people with disability in Japan, fight against poverty and comprehensive social coverage.
In addition to the development project of the therapeutic farm Sened in Sidi Thabet, in collaboration with the World Food Program and funding from the Embassy of Japan and the Network of Children of the Earth.
The Minister of Social Affairs mentioned several new areas of cooperation with Japan, including social promotion and care for people with disability.
He stressed the importance of the event to be organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Health as part of side events of TICAD 8 to raise awareness of the human potential and logistics for people with disability in Tunisia including the training and the use of modern equipment
The Japanese ambassador said that TICAD 8 has a rather social character. He commended bilateral cooperation in the realization of social promotion, the development of mechanisms for integration of people with disability and the achievement of effective results in this area.
