Tunisia participates in the 22nd Summit of COMESA in Zambia

The Ministry Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Tunisian delegation, headed by the Minister Nabil Ammar and  participated in the 22nd  Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), held in the Zambian capital Lusaka from 6 to 8 June 2023, stressed the need to promote regional economic integration and consolidation of Africa into global value and production chains in a manner that serves the interests of its countries, contributes to achieving economic and social progress, and supports the foundations of peace and stability in the African region.

Emphasis was also placed on enhancing the role of the private sector and youth and women entrepreneurs within the COMESA region, as well as establishing support mechanisms and programs to further reinforce their leading role in development and security.

Reference was also made to the delicacy of the current situation regarding climate change, which requires intensified efforts to develop a comprehensive and practical vision based on developed methods and mechanisms to support African countries and enhance their capabilities to adapt to its negative effects, by providing the necessary funds stipulated in international agreements to confront them. In addition to promoting investments in renewable and clean energies and ensuring the transfer of the necessary technologies.

In conclusion, the Tunisian delegation considered that Africa has enough potential to be at the pinnacle of prosperity and development in the world, which can be achieved through consolidating solidarity, tightening organization and believing in self-capabilities.
