Tunisia: Prices are expected to decrease during Ramadan this year
Tunisia's Ministry of Trade anticipates a drop-in price during Ramadan this year compared to last year.
Managing Director of Competition and Economic Surveys at the Ministry of Trade, Houssem Eddine Touiti, stated that prices in January and February fell by 28% compared to the same period last year.
There has been a 22% increase in the supply of vegetables and fruits at the Bir EL Kasaa wholesale market during the first two months of this year.
Measures have been implemented to meet the expected rise in demand during Ramadan, with efforts to improve supply conditions and address consumer behaviors like queuing.
The Ministry aims to balance family and professional consumption by providing additional quantities of consumer products such as sugar. Additionally, significant quantities of potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, apples, and dates will be available. Imports of bananas from Egypt are expected, with a set price of TND 5 per kilo.
The market will also receive regular supplies of semi-skimmed milk, sugar, coffee, rice, and subsidized vegetable oil.
