
Tunisia to host of the Multilateral Naval Exercise “Phoenix Express 2022”
The Tunisian Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in a press release, that Tunisia will host next May 21-June 4 and for the second time in row, the Multilateral Naval Exercise ‘Phoenix Express 2022’ in its 17th edition. Thirteen countries from North Africa and Europe in addition to the USA will take part in this naval drill, with the participation of several international organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the European Fisheries Control Agency. They will be represented by maritime and air units, Marine Commandos, trainers and observers. The maritime exercise is intended to increase cooperation and coordination among participating navies and promote safety and security in the Mediterranean Sea. Higher operational capacities are likewise sought in responding to maritime terrorism and arms and drug trafficking. Also, this exercise aims to training individuals, developing their capacities and making good use of systems and equipment. Next to developing their skills and coordinating to confront illegal acts at sea, especially maritime terrorism, arms and drug smuggling. |
