
Tunisia, UK: discussing cooperation in the field of clean energy
The United Kingdom (UK) is willing to co-operate with Tunisia in the field of clean energy, UK COP26 Regional Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Janet Rogan said after a meeting with the Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Neila Nouira Gongi on Monday, October 3, 2022, in Tunis.
Rogan, who is making a working visit to Tunisia from September 29 to October 4, 2022, discussed with the Tunisian Minister issues related to investment in alternative energy and power generation from renewable energy (RE), and the level of Tunisian skills in this sector.
During this meeting, emphasis was placed on bilateral relations and ways to further develop them, especially in the field of energy and Tunisia’s preparations to participate in the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) to be held on November from 6 to 18, 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt).
From her part, the Minister praise “the good” Tunisia-UK relations and bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of green economy and renewable energy.
She emphasized the importance of investing in alternative energies, to move towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and protect the climate, noting the Tunisian government’s interest in engaging in structural reforms in the RE sector.
Tunisia is preparing to present its strategy of carbon neutrality and resilience to climate change by 2050, at COP 27 scheduled in Egypt while setting the goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to 30% by 2030 and improve the performance of the RE sector.
