Tunisia, UK: Discussing the Issue of Irregular Migration
The issue of irregular migration was at the heart of a meeting held yesterday, Thursday, at the ministry's headquarters, between the Tunisian Interior Minister Kamel Feki and the British Ambassador to Tunisia Helen Winterton at the ministry's headquarters on Thursday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The Tunisian minister reviewed the efforts made by various Tunisian state structures and security units to combat this phenomenon and to provide protection and assistance to irregular migrants in various parts of the country. This "despite the deceptions and slanderous campaigns that Tunisia is facing from some suspicious sides" he added.
According to the same source, it was agreed to further strengthen joint cooperation and continue coordination between the two sides, especially on the issues of irregular migration and transnational organized crime, as well as counter-terrorism, crisis management and strategic planning.
It was also agreed during this meeting to start activating the requirements and conditions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in 2016.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the cooperation programs between the two sides in the areas of interest to the Ministry of Interior and ways to upgrade them to the level of a strategic partnership through the development of joint programs based on the exchange of experiences.
