Tunisia Urges Security Council to Immediately End Genocide Against Palestine
Tunisia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Tarek El Adab, has called on the Security Council to urgently stop the war crimes and genocide occurring in the Gaza Strip.
In a speech during the Security Council session on July 17 and 19, which focused on the Middle East and the Palestinian issue, El Adab emphasized the need to end the Zionist occupation. He stated that this occupation is the root cause of various crimes and violations against innocent civilians.
El Adab highlighted that despite numerous meetings of the Security Council, the UN General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), along with the resolutions passed, the ongoing attacks in Gaza are clear violations of international law and humanitarian conventions.
The Tunisian ambassador voiced his concern over the continuous targeting of children, women, the sick, medical teams, rescue workers, journalists, and UN agency employees by Zionist forces. He also noted the destruction of essential infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and places of worship.
He pointed out that Zionist forces have ignored international will for over seven decades, during which the UN system has failed to enforce its primary role. El Adab criticized the support these forces receive both within and outside the Security Council, including the supply of weapons, which has emboldened them to act above the law.
El Adab reaffirmed Tunisia's steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
