
Tunisia, WHO: Reviewing Bilateral Cooperation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad stated that ss part of his working visit to Geneva, the Minister Nabil Ammar met yesterday, on December 11, with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Welcoming the excellent cooperative relations between Tunisia and WHO, notably through the Organization's Office in Tunis, the Tunisian Foreign Minister reiterated his thanks to the Director-General for the special priority he accords to the implementation of mRNA technology transfer process to the six selected African countries, including Tunisia, initiated on February 18, 2022, on the occasion of the EU-AU Summit, while stressing the importance of an efficient, transparent and inclusive approach to this process.
The Minister also thanked the Director-General for WHO’s efforts in Gaza to save the sick and wounded Palestinians, who are suffering from an unprecedented humanitarian and health catastrophe, added the Ministry.
For his part, the WHO Director-General expressed his gratitude to the Tunisian President, Kais Saied, for the role he played in launching the process of negotiating a new Treaty on pandemics, by being among the first world leaders to advocate this Treaty. He also underlined Tunisia’s role in the international community’s efforts to strengthen the global health architecture to ensure a rapid, effective and sustainable response to future pandemics. He said he was delighted to be able to visit Tunisia at the invitation of the Minister.
Dr Tedros took the opportunity to reiterate his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
