
Tunisian FM Calls for Global Solidarity at the South Summit 2024
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad stated that on the occasion of his participation at the third South Summit of the Group of 77 plus China, held in the Ugandan capital on the 21 and 22 of January, 2024, under the theme "Leaving no one behind", the Minister Nabil Ammar expressed concerns about significant obstacles hindering the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These challenges include global crises, financing challenges, increasing debt burdens, climate change, and geostrategic divisions.
He also warned of the risks of global poverty and growing inequality, urging developed countries to recognize the mutual interest in narrowing the development gap, added the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
Emphasizing international solidarity, the Tunisian Foreign Minister called for reforms in the financial system, sustainable solutions to the debt crisis, and the fulfilment of promises on climate financing. He also advocated for accelerated technology transfer to developing countries.
Addressing the Palestinian issue, Minister Ammar stressed the importance of ensuring freedom, dignity, and the right to life for the Palestinian people, calling for international unity to end bloodshed and colonization, and rejecting double standards regarding the Palestinian cause, according to the same source.
