
Tunisian FM Met With Ambassadors of Friends Countries
On Friday, August 30, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, held a series of diplomatic meetings with key international ambassadors, marking a significant day in Tunisia’s foreign relations.
The day began with a visit from the U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia, Joey Hood, who conveyed the congratulations of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Nafti's recent appointment. The meeting underscored the long-standing relationship between Tunisia and the United States, which spans 227 years. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in promising sectors such as investments, tourism, and culture, reflecting a mutual desire to strengthen ties for the benefit of both nations, stated the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
In another significant meeting, Tunisian Foreign Minister received the Ambassador of Bahrain to Tunisia, Abdulaziz Mohamed Al Eid, who brought greetings from Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and expressed wishes for success in Nafti’s new role.
The talks focused on the strong bilateral relations between Tunisia and Bahrain, with a shared commitment to advancing cooperation, particularly in the economic and investment sectors, to meet the aspirations of both nations and their peoples.
Further solidifying regional ties, Minister Nafti met with the Ambassador of Jordan to Tunisia, Abdullah Abu Rumman, who extended his congratulations on behalf of Jordan's leadership. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the history of cooperation between the two countries and explore ways to enhance it further, especially in light of shared regional and international concerns, including the Palestinian cause.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and looked forward to the upcoming Tunisian-Jordanian Joint Committee meeting in Amman.
Minister Nafti also hosted the Ambassador of Qatar to Tunisia, Zayed bin Saeed Rashid Al Khayarin, who conveyed the well-wishes of Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The discussion highlighted the shared determination of Tunisia and Qatar to strengthen their brotherly ties and cooperation, aiming to elevate their bilateral relations to new heights in line with future bilateral initiatives.
The day concluded with a meeting between the Tunisian Minister and the Ambassador of Japan to Tunisia, Osuga Takeshi, who offered his congratulations on Nafti’s appointment and expressed Japan’s continued commitment to their bilateral partnership.
The meeting focused on the robust cooperation between the two countries, particularly in financial and technical domains, with an expressed desire from the Tunisian side to expand and diversify this partnership, including exploring new avenues in modern technologies and energy. Both parties also exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to contributing to peace and security both regionally and globally.
These diplomatic engagements underscore Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening its international partnerships, fostering cooperation, and exploring new opportunities for mutual benefit across various sectors.
