
Tunisian FM met with his Swiss Counterpart in Bern
As part of his working visit to Switzerland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, met Today, Wednesday December 14, 2023, at the Federal Palace in Bern, with the Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Tunisian Minister congratulated the Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis, on his re-election on December 13, 2023, by the Swiss Parliament, to the Federal Council. He extended an invitation to him for a working visit to Tunisia during the upcoming period, according to a statement by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
The two parties reviewed the various aspects of bilateral cooperation and the means to further strengthen them, particularly within the framework of the Swiss development cooperation strategy in the MENA region for the period 2021 – 2024.
On the occasion, Nabil Ammar raised the issue of looted assets frozen abroad, including in Switzerland, emphasizing the absolute priority given by the Tunisian authorities to the acceleration and completion of the process of restitution of these funds, which will help enable Tunisia to meet its development needs using its own resources.
For his part, Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis assured of his country's readiness to strengthen, over the upcoming period, consultation and exchanges with Tunisia in terms of cooperation and economic partnership, while expressing his understanding of how important is the issue of looted assets.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss current regional and international issues, particularly the Palestinian question. In this regard, the Minister recalled Tunisia's principled position in favor of the Palestinian cause, while emphasizing that peace and regional stability can only be durably ensured after the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, and the recovery by the Palestinian people of all their legitimate rights, according to the same source.
