
Tunisian FM met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
As part of his working visit to Geneva from December 11 to 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, met today, Monday, December 11, 2023, with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.
On this occasion, the Minister reiterated Tunisia’s commitment to the universal principles and values of refugee protection as well as its adherence to international treaties and charters on the protection of human rights and the provisions of international humanitarian law., according to a statement by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
He also called for giving all the necessary importance to responsible and objective communication, with a view to increasing the effectiveness of cooperation between Tunisia and the UNHCR.
The Tunisian Foreign Minister also stressed the need for the international community to collectively and solidarily assume its responsibilities at all levels in order to ensure a fair and equitable response to the refugee crisis in view of the unprecedented increase in their number in the world, which has exceeded 100 million people.
For his part, the UN official reiterated the commitment of the UNHCR to help Tunisia, in particular in terms of capacity building to help, manage and supervise people within the mandate of his Organization.
