Tunisian FM receives Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister, Nabil Ammar, received on Thursday, May 02, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Fukazawa Yoichi, who is on a working visit to Tunisia from April 30 to May 2, 2024.

During the meeting, Minister Ammar highlighted the longstanding relations between Tunisia and Japan, noting recent growth in various areas. He stressed the importance of direct communication between high-level officials from both countries and praised Japan's support and cooperation programs in Tunisia.

Ammar called for an elevation of the Tunisian-Japanese partnership, especially through increased Japanese investment in Tunisia.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, praised the strong bilateral relations and reiterated Japan's commitment to supporting Tunisia's economic, social, and sustainable development efforts. He also expressed Japan's desire for Tunisia's participation in upcoming multilateral meetings in Japan, including the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) and the Arab-Japanese Economic Forum.

The meeting also addressed international issues such as the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the war in Ukraine, and developments in East Asia.

Minister Ammar reaffirmed Tunisia's stance on the Palestinian issue and criticized the situation in Gaza as genocide.

Fukazawa reiterated Japan's support for a UN resolution on a ceasefire in Palestine and urged Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law. Both sides acknowledged their mutual support for each other's nominations to international bodies.
