
Tunisian President met with his Italian Counterpart
The Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia stated that President of the Republic Kais Saied met, this morning, Monday, July 24, 2023, in Rome, with the President of the Italian Republic, Sargio Matterella,
The President Saied praised the strength of the historical friendship between Tunisia and Italy, the principles and values shared by the two peoples, and the sincere will and strong determination they share in order to enhance opportunities for partnership and cooperation, not only in the field of migration, but also in other sectors such as alternative and renewable energies, health, water desalination, and scientific, cultural and sports exchange.
The Tunisian President also indicated that the succession of bilateral meetings at the highest level indicates the depth of the ties between the two peoples and the two countries and reflects the common aspirations towards building a new future, not only for the region, but for all humanity.
The President of the Republic also affirmed Tunisia’s aspiration to materialize and revive the agreements signed with Italy, and expressed Tunisia's readiness to strengthen and expand its trade and investment partnerships with Italy and to provide all appropriate conditions for economic actors to carry out their activities in a suitable environment, according to the same source.
The meeting also touched on the file of irregular migration and the need to work hand in hand in order to eliminate the real causes of this phenomenon and to confront the networks that traffic in human beings in the north and south of the Mediterranean.
In this context, the President of the Republic praised the results of the International Conference on Development and Migration, which he called for organizing in order to formulate collective and non-traditional perceptions of inhumane migration.
The meeting also dealt with other files related to Tunisia's relations with the European Union and its international partners, as well as a number of regional and international issues of common concern.
