Tunisian President met with the Director General of the International Labor Organization Tunisian President Kais Saied met with Gilbert Houngbo, Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Carthage Palace, according to the Tunisian Presidency. During the meeting, President Saied discussed the historical development of workers' struggles and the inception of the idea for an International Labor Organization in the late 19th century. He noted that the ILO was formally established at the Versailles Conference following World War I and later became a specialized agency of the United Nations. In reflecting on these historical milestones, President Saied emphasized the ongoing struggles for the right to work and social justice. He stated, "In Tunisia and around the world, we strive for the right to work and the assurance of workers' rights based on justice. Peace, security, and stability within nations can only be achieved through justice that is fair to all." President Saied also commended the ILO Director-General's initiative to create a global coalition for social justice. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives and innovative thinking to address the challenges faced by humanity today. |
